Summer Scav is in Effect

Last night at staff meeting I announced this week's activity, a scavenger hunt the likes of which MH has never seen, 11 pages long, 211 items strong, it's The Great Summer Scav of 2006. I started writing it in May and I'm really glad that part of the process is over.

Any doubts I had that people would get into its spirit were crushed when not a half hour after its release three guys started driving to Las Vegas and another girl started wondering where Abouché is.

I thought I'd post it here. If you've got the patience it's a really good time.

I like everyone back at the mount. Sure, I miss the kids. (No I don't.) And - gee - the pay sure is great. That said, the primary reason I'm bummed about being somewhere other than MH this summer is Gator's Scav. This would easily, and honestly, be the highlight of my summer, I think, and quite possibly the highlight of all my summers. Cheers, Gator.

I feel similarly - I want to be in on this so bad. My 'team win' would take on a whole new character as we crushed the opposition. I'm bummed I'm missing this.

Ahhhhh, I just joygasimed with memories of crushing the opposition with Fish, Chilly, and Splatt!

I wish I could be there to take the win but knowing my luck I would be on the floor with everyone that wasn't going to win, like every other summer! Plus I get to be in Lovely New Jersey right now!

Sick. Someone needs to hold the torch high. Scav is our pride at MH. Thanks for not letting it slip G8R. Good luck, maybe if it gets too near to flopping you can save it for New Years. I know a few DC people that really want in on it. Hows NJ Scout?

Some dude got a job at Abouché (#49) and already got fired. YIIIIIIKES! People are trying to find my biological father (#91) and another trip to Vegas is reportedly in the works. This is so fun. I'd love to see what Jav 'n' Fish'd pull out for this.

YouTube your stuff Spidey. Set up an account at YouTube -- no harder than MySpace, I'm sure -- go to Upload Videos and select yours off the hard drive. The video has to be under 100MB, tho', so you go to Export > Using QuickTime Conversion and change the Default Settings to Broadband - High. Export. Upload. Share.

Rest of y'all: this sort of work is best left to the professionals.

Will it be able to run on YouTube from the hard drive without drawing from the files in capture scrach? Or should I just put the burned version up? And if so, won't the dvd menu run the whole downloading process amuck?

Once you upload the file, it's on YouTube's servers and you can forget about it.

this hunt is awesome... although, my sources say that some members of the current day camp staff (to remain unnamed) have little intentions of participating.

but thats ok, because you can't beat team win. i did not think that someone would actually attempt the abouche

*sigh* Day Camp ...

Pop turned 60 this weekend so I was off the Mount, but I heard about some fun:

(1) So far three teams have $1 chips from Vegas but only one team actually drove there.

(2) Upper Aspen hosted a pool party including (I'm told) a freaking slip 'n' slide.

(3) Upper Buckeye shut down MySpace Mount Hermon-wide, though it appears to be up right now on my screen.

(4) Daff washed a couple cars over the weekend.

(5) Still waiting for a team to push a car up dorm hill.

(6) Lower Buckeye went to Emerald Hills Golf Course and shot what they thought to be a centuple bogey, which is 100 over par. They actually shot 400 over par (quadracentuple bogey?) and receive only partial credit. Whoops.

(7) Oh! Freaking Jack Pearson will be performing Wild Thing at campfire tonight! First and only campfire I'll go to all year.

(8) Chilly could probably fill us in better but at least Upper Buck asked her and Taddy what anniversary they'd celebrate in 2012.

That's all. I went in expecting a pretty unenthusiastic response and have been blown way back by the commitment level from some folks. Luigi, in particular, a dude who seemed pretty mild-mannered last year when he worked dining has turned about to be a savvy, canny, cold-blooded cat with deep pockets. Dude is single-handedly bankrolling and leading Upper Buck to the finish line.

Gotta' say there's some HUGE POINT easy items on this list, items easily overlooked for want of imagination, like - e.g. - pushing a car up dorm hill. Or a panther on panther beach. A little ingenuity would be my spirit of the thing.

Yeah, the point balance was tricky as hell, and I definitely botched it in places. No one is attacking trivia questions, for example, because what's four point in light of 110 points for skydiving? To the scav's credit, no single item out of 200+ will put a team over the top. Looking forward to tonight.

Well I no longer have any friends in Birch.

1. Upper Buckeye - 1234
2. Birch - 1138
3. Lower Buckeye - 804.2
4. Upper Aspen - 751.06
5. Lower Aspen - 492.5

Since Upper Buckeye didn't shut 'er down world-wide they only scored 50 points for #53. They did steal all five of the judges keychains, which netted them a cool 150 points. They went skydiving for another 130. 50 points for Vegas. Know what I'm just going to set up a website with the scav and all the photos and evidence I can pull together. Too fun not to keep up on the internet.
