I remembered. I didn't post 'cause the little shrub is never around. Whatev. Happy birthday, Bro. Porn and cigarettes aren't as great as they first seem.
(At the risk of hurting feelings and making me look like an ass [too late?] I'd like to say that love Fish and Gator and, for the most part, don't think they'er my bit**es.)
Mm. Pass one over wouldja, homey? So detail your summer plans for me from start to finish. And I don't want to just hear about work. What are you going to dooooo?
I plan to put out a solo ep and play gigs. I am actually playing a 30 min opening set here in alameda june 9. $5. I am also playing drums for a punk band and we're gonna be playing a mess of shows at some pretty decent venues and hopefully getting some kind of recording out. so a lot to look forward on the music front.
So how the h-e-l-l does someone score tickets to the Radiohead tour? I coulda sworn you had to volunteer units of blood for those. Sold out in ten seconds or something.
quick digression, but in order to make this seem more social, check out these prints my london roommate's dad does. he's got some really awesome stuff on there http://www.jamesclaussen.com/
my friend greg scored 4. michael, greg, my girl and i all are in...and i might be getting more tickets. but hey, to make you more jealous, i can give you their copenhagen show from the 6th and you can hear how absolutely amazing they are in concert.
If I slobbered over Radiohead I might be jealous. As is suck an egg.
So now I'm bored with your summer plans.
Give me five websites you visit on a daily basis. Or if you're healthier than me, go with weekly visits. And for diversity sake and on account of Bro's still pretty young, let's keep 'em non-pornographic.
well, you got me hooked on websites i am ashamed to say i visit daily. but my first five looks like this (i have somewhere around 13 daily site...that i check morn, noon and before bed).
I don't know why I brought this up. I really have to confess now that I visit 35 websites and read 16 RSS feeds daily. 'Cept talking to Annie it's probably my favorite hour after school. There's a very easy and important argument to make that this is too. much. time. (and in truth, I'm looking forward to disconnecting a lot this summer) but I love knowing things. And knowing how to do things.
these are sights i'm more ashamed of. but hey, it's like the 25th post now, nobody is reading this still.
1.www.bestweekever.tv 2.www.geekologie.com 3. you got me hooked on www.thesuperficial.com because of that i also go to 4.www.wwtdd.com and as of late, since i am moving to the city, i keep a close tab on 5.http://www.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/search?areaID=1&subAreaID=1&query=&catAbbreviation=apa&minAsk=min&maxAsk=2200&bedrooms=3&neighborhood=
This is hilarious. I decided to take a brief study break and come check out the ol' blog - only to see two of my favorite people pounding away at the keys (27 comments as of when I started typing this comment). This is pretty fun there boys. Good to hear about your summer plans there matty boy. I can't believe you guys check that many websites a day. I try to read this site, Slate, a couple websites about California politics (the best one is www.newwestnotes.com - it's fricking amazing) - and all of that keeps me busy and away from things I should be doing. Good to hear you guys are keeping the web alive. In a few days I am going to check back on this site and look up a few of both of your suggestions. Good times.
The whole bday thing. Interesting comment Spiff made ... like there's a list of some sort just floating out there the taking.
The dates I've got go back since I started working at DC and started bumming dates off people. After I become director I acted like it was part of the job to share their DOB. That was easier. Because your employment was a bit ... i dunno ... sporadic I never got yours. Go cry in the corner.
So speaking of MySpace: who's got the best MySpace page out of those on the sidebar? (And by "best" I mean "least worst." And leave yourself out of the discussion.)
if there is one positive thing about all this, it's that it causes me to constantly change the music on my itunes. letting my audioscrobbler get some diversity.
I'm kind of taken with Flip's right now. I mean, granted, he's got a song set to auto-load, which is just about the most annoying thing anyone has ever done to me shorting of killing my mom on mother's day.
But ... but ... black text?!?!?! on a grey background?!!? It's almost as if the text and background .... CONTRAST!!!!
Oh Corker ... such a punk ... and hey, props for sticking with Juno despite the vaaaast availability of better alternatives. How long have you had that one? Seriously. Since you first started DC, right? That was in ... 96? So that's almost a decade?!?!?
Hey, as long as we're dumping pop culture confessionals out on the table. Here's my like fourth or fifth for the night:
I watch a lot of tv.
I know I know. But it's always in the service of multi-tasking. Some background noise while I Photoshop. No excuse, really, but teevee is so good right now. Do you watch? Have you heard?
because of my ever changing work schedule i can't dedicate my life to shows easily. i know there's some with decent writing out there...i read all about them on celeb gossip sites, ya know. but i am an adult swim addict. robot chicken, aqua teen hunger force, harvey birdman, sealab 2021, family guy...saved by the bell.
especially robot chicken though. i got season one the other day and never have i been so entertained.
always looking for series dvd suggestions though...i think it's the inner control freak that stops me from watching tv when the show tells me to. if i had tivo my social life would be as lacking as the homework i turned in this semester.
i used to download shows on my pc. i had a killer video card that had a built tv tuner also and tivo-like functions. the 60 gigs of music are killing my harddrive and i have been too lazy to really work on my external.
Whatev. There almost isn't any point to recommending something good to someone of your head-in-the-sand levels, but Veronica Mars is about the most fun I've had with a television all year. Season 1 out right now.
And so.
You can now choose to answer either/both of these:
1) A favorite experience at camp last summer. 2) A favorite counselor from camp last summer.
I've got a fav. My heels pounding down the hill several dozen feet behind Daff's. Frodo's car wheeling a U-turn in a parking lot across the street. Everyone trying to make it to the 76 station first in one of my favorite Ditch games on record.
Retching into the grass while Tues. held my hair back was also kind of fun. But in a different way.
experience: photo scavenger hunt, because fish's driving allowed me to have yet another near-death experience i walked away from.
counselor: umm, tough one. gotta say that kicken it with daff was always a good time and anybody who calls me from vegas telling me i need to drive down or catch the next flight asap is fav. counselor material for sure.
haha, i have a list of 50 some odd beers that i tried in london that i like to glance at from time to time. there's something about enjoying a guinness at the factory or a moroccan beer in morocco that just can't be beat. red stripe and pilsner urquell are always favs of mine. but nothing beats a forty of mickey's.
haha, i have a list of 50 some odd beers that i tried in london that i like to glance at from time to time. there's something about enjoying a guinness at the factory or a moroccan beer in morocco that just can't be beat. red stripe and pilsner urquell are always favs of mine. but nothing beats a forty of mickey's.
Corona is lame unless you have tons of lime, and even then I'd rather have a margherita. Best Mexican beer is Dox Equis Amber fo sho' - it kiiillllls the competition. Runner up is Negra Modela.
sapporo is a favorite of mike and i's. especially sapporo reserve. nothing says awesomeness like that can does. it's also a key ingredient to the legitimate sake bomb.
do you honestly feel this way fish? btw, the best part of european drinking is that there really is no "bud-lite" there. for the most part, even their cheap beer is great. like stella artois, which is the cheapest in stores there and here is regarded as being a decent choice. the brits like to call it "wife beater" and say only chavs drink it.
i hope bro signs on at some point and gets really excited at seeing 100+ comments in response to his belated birthday wish and then realizes it's mindless banter about daily websites and beer.
Seriously - I don't like Sapporro. I am not much of a fan of lighter style beers (the one key exception being Pislner Urquell), and Sapporro strikes me in the same way. I too have had it with sake bombs, and it's the only time I will ever have it. Other than that I stay away.
I think Stella Artois is good; another good dinner type of beer cause it's not too filling but has a good taste. That's funny it's not quite so highly regarded on the other side of the pond.
The thesis is coming....slowly.... but it is coming. It is all I do - well, that and get distracted by the blog and stuff.
i was hoping gator would take the movie question. i am pretty film-illiterate. where are you gator? what is this idea? how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
Yeah, unfortunately for you, Matty, the site hasn't been up so long that you can't check out every single archived page. Probably my guiltiest pleasure. Tues. knows how I struggle.
Oh Fish - if there's anything I've learned reading this, it's that there's a very real common trait shared by my groomsmen and myself: we're all dicks. Simply put: nice people aren't nearly as funny.
That and digressions are way more fun than staying on topic.
i honestly was not trying to be a "d*ck." i figured it'd be easier just to search for one's name and was really impressed that someone would read the whole thing.
i have something to confess....i was completely bored and came to the blog and saw 134 comments and thought to myself, "well, if they are good, i will keep reading....seeing that this next hour i am bored out of my mind waiting for this stupid thing to start." so i went for it, yes, i have no life, it honestly felt like i was listening to one of your conversations and i missed that.
and by the way, spidey you owe me a thank you because when you were trashed allowed you to put your arm around me in the car eventhough it was super awkward and i was nice to you.....and that was a funny night. i do beleive he was drunk after 1 sip of his corona....i have the picture and it is legendary.

6:30 PM
he's not 18 you dork. ha
6:46 PM
Goodness Spidey, I almost want to side with Gator now.
6:51 PM
It's cool if you want to Fish.
I'LL TAKE ALL YOU BIT#$ES ON!
(At the risk of hurting feelings and making me look like an ass [too late?] I'd like to say that love Fish and Gator and, for the most part, don't think they'er my bit**es.)
7:02 PM
Sorry Mike
*I love Gator and Fish..
7:06 PM
Where is this heaven-sent birthday list? It must have been another one of those really important things I zoned out on!
8:18 PM
Hey I've got nothing going on tonight. Anyone wanna hang out on the blog?
9:09 PM
so down to hang out on the blog
9:23 PM
So then Matty, whaddya say we boost this post into 2006's Most Commented status right here right now?
9:38 PM
I can stay till 10pm then perhaps I can hang out on Rachael's computer, as mine dosn't have internet.
9:39 PM
alright, let's do it. i digressed for a minute. but i am in it for the long run...i just realized michael did not take home his beer from last night.
9:55 PM
Mm. Pass one over wouldja, homey? So detail your summer plans for me from start to finish. And I don't want to just hear about work. What are you going to dooooo?
9:59 PM
well, a question like that needs multiple responses. so i shall detail it in multiple comments.
10:00 PM
Yeah! Blog slumber party!
10:02 PM
I plan to put out a solo ep and play gigs. I am actually playing a 30 min opening set here in alameda june 9. $5. I am also playing drums for a punk band and we're gonna be playing a mess of shows at some pretty decent venues and hopefully getting some kind of recording out. so a lot to look forward on the music front.
10:04 PM
i'm also gonna be seeing a mess of great shows. Beck, Radiohead, Danielson, Bloc Party w/ Broken Social Scene, Walkmen...etc.
10:06 PM
So how the h-e-l-l does someone score tickets to the Radiohead tour? I coulda sworn you had to volunteer units of blood for those. Sold out in ten seconds or something.
10:07 PM
quick digression, but in order to make this seem more social, check out these prints my london roommate's dad does. he's got some really awesome stuff on there http://www.jamesclaussen.com/

10:12 PM
Oh and something I'm not already aware/sick of, please. Pitchfork is dull, mmkay?
10:15 PM
well, you got me hooked on websites i am ashamed to say i visit daily. but my first five looks like this (i have somewhere around 13 daily site...that i check morn, noon and before bed).
1.www.pitchforkmedia.com
2.www.uncrate.com
3.www.tinymixtapes.com
4.daycamp.blogspot.com
5.www.buzzpatrol.com
10:17 PM
here, i'll give you 5 more
10:17 PM
I don't know why I brought this up. I really have to confess now that I visit 35 websites and read 16 RSS feeds daily. 'Cept talking to Annie it's probably my favorite hour after school. There's a very easy and important argument to make that this is too. much. time. (and in truth, I'm looking forward to disconnecting a lot this summer) but I love knowing things. My indispensable five after the jump.

these are sights i'm more ashamed of. but hey, it's like the 25th post now, nobody is reading this still.
1.www.bestweekever.tv
2.www.geekologie.com
3. you got me hooked on www.thesuperficial.com
because of that i also go to

10:22 PM
i have like 8 or 9 more sites. 8 rss. and then i try to keep up with about 10 music blogs.
10:23 PM
http://www.slate.com/
Best online journalism bar none.
http://www.lifehacker.com/
How to get more done. Faster. Kind of an obsession of mine.

I really like the aesthetics of advertising.
http://www.themoviebox.net/trailers/
I can find any trailer here.
http://ww.cuteoverload.com/
My secret shame.
10:24 PM
just realized the craigslist url didn't work. it's just sf housing, with the search criteria filled out for a three bedroom under $2200.
10:25 PM
Whoa ... whoa ... I'm not claiming The Superficial. Yer digging your own express line to hell with that one, brother.
10:25 PM

10:27 PM
quick digression, but i am a bit down that you have yet to appologize for not acknowledging my bday. i mean, gator, dead fish have feelings too.
10:27 PM
Heh. That Tyler Durden site is kind of fun. There's just a vast market for anti-tabloid stuff right now. Truly, a great era.
Geekologie strikes me like a gizmodo.com, a site I had to purge because I just wasn't learning much of anything interesting.
10:28 PM
aye, you definitely gave me the superficial link. i'm leaving it at that...
10:28 PM
The whole bday thing. Interesting comment Spiff made ... like there's a list of some sort just floating out there the taking.
The dates I've got go back since I started working at DC and started bumming dates off people. After I become director I acted like it was part of the job to share their DOB. That was easier. Because your employment was a bit ... i dunno ... sporadic I never got yours. Go cry in the corner.
10:30 PM
Fine. When was your birthday?
10:30 PM
wwtdd is fun...you can also go to www.idontlikeyouinthatway.com and then you can read the same celebrity rant on three different websites.
10:30 PM
"matthew kanbergs was born on may 17, weighing in at 10 pounds, 8 ounces..."
10:32 PM
Hi to both of you as well. Back to work.
10:33 PM
i feel so much better about myself as soon as someone besides gator and i post.
10:34 PM
Alright, whatev, which qualifies you for a birthday shoutout on May 18. Day-late-ness being the thing to do apparently.
10:34 PM
Oh great. Shannon wants it to be fun. Way to miss the point, Dorker. *sigh*
10:36 PM
gator. cute overload is the new website i am ashamed of.
10:37 PM
So speaking of MySpace: who's got the best MySpace page out of those on the sidebar? (And by "best" I mean "least worst." And leave yourself out of the discussion.)
10:37 PM
if there is one positive thing about all this, it's that it causes me to constantly change the music on my itunes. letting my audioscrobbler get some diversity.

I salute you, Flipper.
10:39 PM
So you've visited Cute Overload before? You've been an Overloader?
10:39 PM
no, i just checked it out. i am overwhelmed with warm fuzzy sensations and i feeling like visiting the pound.
did you hear michael and merideth got a cat?
10:41 PM
Whoa whoa whoa ... can't leave without tossing your sites over your shoulder as you leave! C'mon, Corker ... one of us ... ONE OF US ... !
10:41 PM
i put zero effort into myspace. although i did recently add the snakes on a plane trailer to my "about me" section.
10:43 PM
Er. I think I remember Miguelito mentioning the possibility back in the day, but only after they got married, I thought he said.
10:43 PM
i agree, reveal the daily sites.
10:43 PM
Snakes on a Plane ... that isn't old already ...
10:44 PM
well, they got one. you know how those kids are, all impulsive and whatnot.
10:45 PM
Oh Corker ... such a punk ... and hey, props for sticking with Juno despite the vaaaast availability of better alternatives. How long have you had that one? Seriously. Since you first started DC, right? That was in ... 96? So that's almost a decade?!?!?
10:46 PM
pshh. snakes on a plane will never get old. at least that trailer won't. i feel smarter each time i watch it.
10:46 PM
Hey, as long as we're dumping pop culture confessionals out on the table. Here's my like fourth or fifth for the night:
I watch a lot of tv.
I know I know. But it's always in the service of multi-tasking. Some background noise while I Photoshop. No excuse, really, but teevee is so good right now. Do you watch? Have you heard?
10:47 PM
hahaha, gator, you're an e-thug. eh, e-bully.
10:47 PM
Seriously, Shannon. How long?
10:48 PM
because of my ever changing work schedule i can't dedicate my life to shows easily. i know there's some with decent writing out there...i read all about them on celeb gossip sites, ya know. but i am an adult swim addict. robot chicken, aqua teen hunger force, harvey birdman, sealab 2021, family guy...saved by the bell.
especially robot chicken though. i got season one the other day and never have i been so entertained.
10:49 PM
Yikes. Okay. Dropping the teevee discussion. Didn't realize we were still so heavy into animation.
And who watches teevee on the network's schedule, anyway? Judging from your terabyte-sized music stash, you know how BitTorrent works.
10:51 PM
always looking for series dvd suggestions though...i think it's the inner control freak that stops me from watching tv when the show tells me to. if i had tivo my social life would be as lacking as the homework i turned in this semester.
10:52 PM
i used to download shows on my pc. i had a killer video card that had a built tv tuner also and tivo-like functions. the 60 gigs of music are killing my harddrive and i have been too lazy to really work on my external.
10:54 PM
Why's for both.
10:55 PM
*sigh* It's a free blog I guess.
(But seriously, say anything bad about me OR Sushi and I delete your account.)
10:58 PM
I've got a fav. My heels pounding down the hill several dozen feet behind Daff's. Frodo's car wheeling a U-turn in a parking lot across the street. Everyone trying to make it to the 76 station first in one of my favorite Ditch games on record.
Retching into the grass while Tues. held my hair back was also kind of fun. But in a different way.
10:59 PM
Crud. Now I feel bad for calling you Dorker.
11:01 PM
Friends?
11:01 PM
My question - Favorite beer?
11:01 PM
My answer:
I like black and tan when I'm at a bar, or a hef with a meal. At home I like bass and red stripe.
11:02 PM
Sushi... we all know - you can answer too.
11:03 PM
Had a Corona tonight. Fun but in a soda-ish way. Reallllly carbonated.
11:03 PM
Better question for Sushi:
Beer you haven't tried?
11:03 PM
experience: photo scavenger hunt, because fish's driving allowed me to have yet another near-death experience i walked away from.
counselor: umm, tough one. gotta say that kicken it with daff was always a good time and anybody who calls me from vegas telling me i need to drive down or catch the next flight asap is fav. counselor material for sure.
11:04 PM
Lately I've been brewing on the best idea for camp.
11:06 PM
If I was a staff counselor I would definitely make this happen.
Since none of you are coming back, though, it feels kinda lame to tease.
11:07 PM
haha, i have a list of 50 some odd beers that i tried in london that i like to glance at from time to time. there's something about enjoying a guinness at the factory or a moroccan beer in morocco that just can't be beat. red stripe and pilsner urquell are always favs of mine. but nothing beats a forty of mickey's.

and what is this idea?
11:08 PM
Corona is lame unless you have tons of lime, and even then I'd rather have a margherita. Best Mexican beer is Dox Equis Amber fo sho' - it kiiillllls the competition. Runner up is Negra Modela.
11:08 PM
i take back my favorite moment. seeing spidey trashed on no more contract night made my summer.
11:09 PM
Yuck.
11:10 PM
i like negra modela just because it has that fancy gold foil on top.
11:10 PM
It's even bad with sake. Sapporro is Japan's bud-light.
11:11 PM
sapporo is a favorite of mike and i's. especially sapporo reserve. nothing says awesomeness like that can does. it's also a key ingredient to the legitimate sake bomb.
11:12 PM

11:14 PM
cool corker. i meant to spell it right.
(sorry, i'm related to michael).
11:15 PM
i hope bro signs on at some point and gets really excited at seeing 100+ comments in response to his belated birthday wish and then realizes it's mindless banter about daily websites and beer.
11:17 PM
Seriously - I don't like Sapporro. I am not much of a fan of lighter style beers (the one key exception being Pislner Urquell), and Sapporro strikes me in the same way. I too have had it with sake bombs, and it's the only time I will ever have it. Other than that I stay away.

maybe spidey. no offense meant. but i mean, he's definitely a contender for reading through it all.
11:26 PM
...and then there was one.
11:28 PM
I checked back. Looks like Gator checked out.
11:44 PM
121. Not bad. Ali gets credit for starting the thread with the most comments - way to go.
11:45 PM
you guys crack me up...
11:53 PM
for the record, the end of this has brought me to a new level...i'm browsing that horribly cute animal website gator admitted as a daily link.
12:07 AM
wow i'm very impressed ....
2:02 AM
Yeah, unfortunately for you, Matty, the site hasn't been up so long that you can't check out every single archived page. Probably my guiltiest pleasure. Tues. knows how I struggle.

2:05 PM
wow spidey. the whole thing? didn't just search the page for the word "spidey" to see if anyone name dropped ya?
4:20 PM
Don't be a d*ck Matthew.
4:43 PM
Oh Fish - if there's anything I've learned reading this, it's that there's a very real common trait shared by my groomsmen and myself: we're all dicks. Simply put: nice people aren't nearly as funny.

i have something to confess....i was completely bored and came to the blog and saw 134 comments and thought to myself, "well, if they are good, i will keep reading....seeing that this next hour i am bored out of my mind waiting for this stupid thing to start." so i went for it, yes, i have no life, it honestly felt like i was listening to one of your conversations and i missed that.
and by the way, spidey you owe me a thank you because when you were trashed allowed you to put your arm around me in the car eventhough it was super awkward and i was nice to you.....and that was a funny night. i do beleive he was drunk after 1 sip of his corona....i have the picture and it is legendary.
