I love this stuff. I also love how the only time when I am on the awards I'm either prideful or getting into a fight - nice to know how you think of me G8R.... or is it everyone?

Love this stuff.

So, basically: w/o Gator and Spidey, this place would be a damn ghost town.

I need to figure out how to upload pictures. As soon as I do, my postcount's SKYROCKETING. Watch out Gator, you're in my sights.

Yeah, so I don't understand some of the metrics. How do you come up with a gauge of quality?

Are questions about methodology too droll for the DC blog?

7:50 AM

Blogger Michael K. said...

Well, actually, Gator has no metric for quality. So, basically, he decides every qualitative category. Which is the majority. Accusations of dictator never seemed more apropos.

In other words: Can I get an effing recount? Or wait: Can I get an effing vote?

It looks like the quality quotion is the number of comments divided by the number of posts. So if you never post, but visit every day/comment a lot, then you are less selfish. or something.

Jav, i agree, i think we should have a ballot. or a second award ceremony - the Day Camp Blog Guild.

Chilly's sorta right. The quality award is a quotient of comments/post. Since Spidey and I post more than anyone else it's pretty unsurprising we'd have the most comments. But the quality award goes to Snaps and Nova who, despite not posting as often, generate a lot of comments. (Especially Snaps, if you'll all remember that mess.)

Jav's right. There are metrics for a lot of the awards but not for quality. That's just my opinion.

But they're both wrong about democracy, which never works. Sure they both say they want a vote, but once they got one, it'd be a chore, something they'd put off until some midnight deadline. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone else on this board having the tripart mix of tenacity, a Type A personality, and the interest to go back and read every post in order to make an informed decision. Maybe I'm wrong. But then I don't see either of them offering to tabulate ballots.

Maybe interest is the only important factor, though. I just got my California Voter packet, which I plan not to read.

Gator: you're right, of course. But the thing is (and Fish knows this better than anyone on the board, I imagine, just by sake of being involved quite directly in politics) no amount of either a) explanation or b) "satisfaction" will quell the bitching. That is, I'm gonna' complain about not having a vote if I don't get a vote and I'm gonna' complain about having to do crap if I am endowed with the responsibility to vote. Or I'm going to just ignore both acts of generosity and do and say absolute nothing. C'est la vie for political powers.

Which is all to say this: the DC Blog Awards is, hands down, the highlight post of the year, and I (and I'm sure everyone else - Fish excepted, of course) thanks you for putting in the time and effort. But, of course, that won't preclude our bitching.

Sucks bein' the prez.

Blogger Dr. Love said...

Don't you mean "king" or "don"? I don't remeber electing a prez.

Spidey - you're getting funnier homeboy.

And everyone bitches in a democracy. I make phone calls and go to people's houses in the state that could potentially change the tide of who controls the Senate - and the response? Mostly indifferent. I don't want a democracy on the blog, but we could damn well work a little bit harder at ours for our country.

Im the 1% who reads the election packet.
